(South St. Louis County) - For Diana Calderon, R.N., the years have flown by: 26 as a registered nurse, and before that another five as a paramedic. But she’s never lost her passion for her work, or her empathy for her patients, say her co-workers in the Emergency Department.
These years of dedication earned Calderon the 2013 Florence Nightingale Award from Abbott EMS. In a surprise ceremony, Brian Gerth, EMT-P, Account Executive for Abbott EMS, announced that Calderon had been selected by Abbott’s EMS crews from numerous written nominations of nurses from hospitals throughout St. Louis County.
“We started the Florence Nightingale program five years ago, to honor the outstanding nurses we work with,” Gerth said. “As paramedics, our work is meaningless, unless we have you to back us up.”
Also honored at the ceremony was Shannon Boulding, C.R.N., Clinical Shift Supervisor, a 2013 Florence Nightingale nominee.
