Practice safe sun

During the heat of the summer, when youre out enjoying the weather or cooling off at the pool or beach, dont forget the importance of sun protection. Apply sunscreen about 30 minutes before heading out so that it can be absorbed. Look for sunscreen with both UVB and UVA protection. Sunscreen should also be reapplied every two to three hours. Your eyes need protection as well, so wear UV-blocking sunglasses. A widebrimmed hat also can protect your scalp and shade your face.

Do not put sunscreen on babies under 6 months of age. Keep them covered with shade from hats or umbrellas.

The rays of the sun are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If possible, help your family avoid being outside for too long during these peak times. Follow these basic safety tips to enjoy yourself now and protect yourself from future problems like skin cancer and cataracts.
